How to Achieve the Millionaire Mindset: Successful Secrets Revealed
5 Secrets to Achieving the Millionaire Mindset!
As a mother of three children, the owner of a yoga studio, a team member of a thriving realty centre and a recovery coach, I’ve learned and observed a few things along my journey. I have been raised with real estate and as a result, I am very familiar with how to operate a successful real estate business. Today I want to share four secrets with you, including a bonus secret, that will help you achieve the Millionaire Mindset. If you are feeling defeated or burnt out in your real estate career, or you feel like you are missing out on quality time with friends and family, I hope you will find these tips helpful.
Let’s talk about what exactly a ‘millionaire mindset’ means. I want to start by pointing out that the millionaire mindset is not about the dollar amount in your bank account. It’s about living intentionally and with passion, surrounding yourself with the right people in your life who get excited with and for you, as well as purposefully designing each element of your world from family, to business, to friends, to finding your own definition of success. It means living the life we choose to, because if we truly love what we do, the money will come!
How to Achieve the Millionaire Mindset:
Secret #1: Don’t Try to Do It All
I’ll admit that this secret seems counterintuitive when talking about achieving success but trust me when I say you will not be successful in any of your personal or professional endeavours if you take on too much at one time. At one point in my life I had four businesses to run including a farm, two toddlers and a newborn at home, I was building my house, all while trying to manage my son’s anxiety and my family’s intense grief due to the loss of my father. To say I was stressed would be an understatement. Running four businesses and managing up to thirteen staff all while in my twenties left me constantly running on survival mode. I couldn’t effectively manage my time, grow my businesses, spend enough time with my family or ignite my passion for the work I was doing.
One of the best things I’ve learned over the years is the power to say “no”, and to ask myself whether I am working smarter, not harder, in my business. I like to remind myself from time to time of this quote by David Allen: “We can do anything, but we can’t do everything.” Yes, I know it can be incredibly hard to turn down awesome opportunities but let me remind you that how much time and effort we dedicate to a particular venture is directly related to how successful that venture is.
Secret #2: Leverage Your Time
When you have three busy kids you learn very quickly how valuable your time really is. You learn that you can’t be everywhere, so hire help quickly. Hire an assistant, hire a cleaner, hire a nanny, ask for help from family and friends. Even if you don’t have kids, hire an assistant or employee to take things off your plate. Learn to delegate easy or less important tasks to someone else so that your time can be better spent on more challenging or valuable tasks. Additionally, start time blocking your schedule. For the longest time our family didn’t time block and it was absolute chaos. Now, we time block our calendar and get most if not all of the things we want to do in a day accomplished. Schedule in the things you want to do first and then schedule your work or other commitments around that — this is the millionaire mindset. This is life by design.
Secret #3: Care for Your Clients
Authentically caring for your clients will undoubtedly set you apart from the competition. Through my experience in real estate, I’ve noticed some agents are more concerned with the dollars and cents and end up completely neglecting their client’s actual needs. When you show your clients how important they are to you through your actions, they will want to work with you time and time again. When your client care is guided by integrity, authenticity and empathy, that’s a sign of a good real estate agent practicing the millionaire mindset.
Secret #4: Choose Family and Passion First, and the Money Will Follow!
When we choose what we love first, the money always follows. I can assure you that the opportunities will come pouring in when you are finally able to align what you are truly passionate about with what you want to do in life. This secret lends it success to the idea that when your cup is full in your personal life and you need to shift your focus to work, your cup will remain full in your professional life because you genuinely enjoy what you do. So, find what fills up your cup and let that naturally overflow into your business.
Bonus Secret #5: Create a Mindset Business Plan to Compliment the Physical One
I once read this awesome book that talked about making sure you have an emotional business plan, and I have to say this is one of the most valuable tools I have ever learned from a book, and now practice as a business owner. Now I create a mindset business plan to go along with my functional business plan! This is pure gold, have you ever thought of combining the two? Have you ever felt like something was missing from your vision board or objectives? I can assure you that a mindset business plan is the missing piece to your puzzle, the two go hand-in-hand. From one successful business owner to the next, I encourage you to put effort into both and see what happens. This is the millionaire mindset; this is being vulnerable, taking risks, and going all in.
I’ll be real with you — it’s both inspiring and exhausting to have a millionaire mindset all the time. Why? Because we need to be constantly checking in with ourselves, we need to be honest with ourselves. It’s inspiring because we get to accomplish incredible things and meet incredible people! It’s exhausting because we want to do it all, at the same time, everyday — why? Because we love the challenge, but trust me when I say you will start to move farther away from wanting to do it all and gravitate toward feeling grateful for all that you have and are able to do now. It will take some time for our minds to get use to this new way of thinking, but eventually the millionaire mindset will take precedent over everything else. Our mindset will start to align with our success and we will be ready for what comes with that. Picture our mindset and success as the two ends of a ladder, are the two close to one another? Is your mindset equally aligned with the success you’re looking for? A keynote speaker once said to me that a different mindset is required to achieve high levels of success. I‘ve heard this advice before but for some reason this time it hit home, it just made sense. If we attract all of this success, the question remains, is our mindset ready for it? If not, what will happen? Put the work into mastering your mindset, trust yourself and the journey, and let go of perfectionism.
All in all, there will be both successes and struggles in real estate, as well as with any business ventures, and that’s a good thing — that means you’re on the right track. If we are being challenged, we are growing, so go and grow. And don’t forget to have fun with the journey!
